DIY Fire Pit (From an old Charcoal Grill)

I decided a long time ago, that instead of buying a fire pit for our backyard (AKA the grass area behind our apartment complex) I would find an old charcoal grill and figure out a way to make it into a fire pit. A few weeks ago my dreams became a reality as I was rummaging through the dumpster... Thus I give you our new and improved fire pit. I am still waiting to get a call from the apartment maintenance staff asking me to remove it... I will keep you posted.

What you will need:
1) an old charcoal grill (you could try it with a gas grill, however I didn't personally like the shape of gas grills)
2) screw driver/drill
3) Hammer
4) Shovel
5) Rocks/something to line the rim

INSTRUCTIONS:

First: Obtain old grill from dumpster

(it's the one closest to the camera)

Second:Strip the grill down to just the bottom portion (you can throw everything else out)

3rd: Measure the size of the grill to determine the size of the hole you need to dig

4th: Dig hole (Keep in mind you don't want the hole to be too deep b/c you want to have the rim of the grill at or slightly above ground level)

5th: Drop the bottom portion of the grill into the ground (I had to keep digging the sides out in order to get it to sit flat so its a little bit of trial and error

6th: Line the edges with stones (I found these from random construction sites in the greater Birmingham area)

  7th: Start fire

We've only used it once, but it worked and it was well worth the pride lost while in the dumpster.

Holla!
